Depressed son slits mother’s throat in Rajarhat near Vedic Village

  • Police arrested Saumik the same night and recovered the bloodstained knife used in the brutal throat-slitting murder

Depressed son slits mother’s throat in Rajarhat near Vedic Village

Devyani Majumdar (58) was allegedly murdered by her son, Saumik Majumdar, at their apartment in Rajarhat near Vedic Village on Thursday night. Police said Saumik, reportedly suffering from depression after losing his job, slit her throat with a kitchen knife.

The bloodstained weapon was recovered from the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem. Rajarhat Police arrested Saumik the same night. Neighbours heard arguments before the incident. An investigation is underway into his mental health and background. No other family members were present.
